The asphalt road coming from Pella, ends at Ronco Superiore, a small town formerly located in a strategic position along the mule track that connected Lake Orta with Valsesia. Here stands the Church of San Defendente ; the dedication recalls the Roman soldier protector against the plague. The interior has a single nave and houses a painting of the Nativity of Mary Most Holy from the Church of Ronco Sopra.
