RONCO SUPERIORE

Ronco Superiore

From Ronco Sotto the ancient mule track leads to the hamlet of Ronco Sopra . On the way you can also admire two chapels, the first at the small cemetery of Ronco Sotto dated 1900 and the second depicting the Madonna and Child at the entrance of Ronco Sopra.

Hidden among the peace of the chestnut groves lies the Oratory of the Nativity of Maria Santissima, better known as San Giulio . The building was built in 1600, but numerous alterations were made in the 1700s. Internally it houses some frescos of rare beauty made between the end of the fifteenth and the beginning of the seventeenth century. This is probably work by the Cagnoli school. There also appears the traditional image of San Giulio while sailing on his cloak towards the island to free it from snakes.
