REFUGE DODICI APOSTOLI

Refuge Dodici Apostoli

The Refuge Dodici Apostoli (Twelve Apostles), 2489 m, is located in the Brenta Dolomites, and takes its name from the shape of 12 pinnacles that can be seen from the pass above the refuge, that look like statues of the Apostles.

The trek includes a wide ring section, which may be traversed in both directions; here is described the counterclockwise tour.

Access

From Trento you drive towards Ponte Arche, then head to the town of Stenico, and follow the signs for Val D'Algone. After about 10 Km you arrive at the Refuge Ghedina, 1130 meters, from there you go on and in about 5 minutes you reach a parking lot in front of the Hotel Brenta, 1167 meters. For an additional fee, you can continue by car to the Malga Nambi.

Route

From the parking lot it takes about 20 minutes to get to Malga Nambi, 1373 meters, path 333:

From the hut, you continue along path 333, until you get to the junction with the trail 341B where you turn right towards the Passo Dodici Apostoli. Along the walk you reach Baito dei Cacciatori (hut of the hunters), 1800 meters, climbing along the Val Sacco:

From there you continue on the path 341, which continues through mountain pines until you come to a saddle:

From there, for a few minutes, you descend into a valley, then begin going up the path of the Val di Sacco along a scree, that heads to the Passo Dodici Apostoli, 2551 meters:

From there you can enjoy a 360 degree panorama on groups of Adamello, Presanella Cevedale, and Val di Sacco, Cima Dodici Apostoli, e Cima d'Agola:

From the pass in about 15 minutes you arrive at the Refuge Dodici Apostoli; descend along a gravel path with a slight slope following the red-white signs. Not far from the shelter, with a 5 minutes walk along the path dedicated to Adolfo Salvaterra, you find a church, dedicated to the Madonna Ausiliatrice (Our Lady Help of Christians), that is carved into the rock. It is a monument in memory of people who died on the mountains; inside the church there is an altar, and pictures in memory of the dead people:

On the last Sunday of the month of July a mass is celebrated in memory of them.

Return

From the hut you descend along the path 307 in Val di Nardis, initially between easy rocks and then on a scree slope down to a grassy plain, then you continue along path 307 towards Malga Movlina; here the trail becomes partly wooded and partly grassy. You arrive at the junction with trail 307 and 354, and continue on 354. In about 50 minutes you reach the Passo del Groto:

You continue on the path 333, following the wooden sticks with red and white stripes, walking down a meadow, passing over the Malga Movlina without reaching it. At the end of the lawn you continue on an easy path through the woods, to find the junction 333-341B, where you continue on 333, and in about 20 minutes get back to the parking lot in front of the Hotel Brenta.
