MIASINO

Villa Nigra

At the center of the town of Miasino stands the majestic Villa Nigra, built by the architect Carlo Nigra, partially using as a building material the ruins of the castle that once stood in Carcegna, previously dismantled.

The villa has a wonderful sixteenth-century facade with wrought iron balustrades and serpentine. The original building, owned by the Martelli family, dates back to 1500 and was expanded between 1681 and 1725 by adding a new wing and a body with double loggia. In the first half of 1800 the villa was bought by the Nigra family, wealthy landowners of the Lomellina area. Architect Nigra, author of numerous works of restoration, like the Valentino Castle in Turin, the church of Miasino, the bell tower of the island of San Giulio, took care of the renovation of the house.

In the south direction, with a slight slope, the villa has a garden that winds along a path that ends with a gate that opens onto the main road. In recent years the building has been the subject of an ambitious restoration project which has also affected the many frescoes.
