The built-up area of Corconio has a very characteristic corner where the Church of S. Stefano and the Villa Bonola are located, as well as other seventeenth-century buildings.

Here the writers Mario Bonfantini and Mario Soldati stayed, who set novels and short stories in Orta and filmed some famous films like Piccolo Mondo Antico and the Tales of the Marshal .

The Church of S. Stefano is presented with a small portico a little higher than a man; inside it houses two chapels, the chapel of the Mater Dolorosa and that of St. Luke. In particular, the latter contains decorations made by Giorgio Bonola (1657-1700) originally from the area, Giacomo Parravicino, known as il Gianolo (1660-1729), a Valtellina painter and by Pietro Romagnolo from Lugano.

In the dome of the chapel the Ascension of Christ is depicted, while on the right there are some characters from the Old Testament: Moses with the tablets of the Law and King David with the harp.

The village of Corconio develops around the large seventeenth-century house of the Bonola family. To this family belongs the aforementioned painter Giorgio Bonola whose works adorn the churches of Ameno, Miasino, Vacciago, Orta and Corconio.

The villa, joined to the lake by a narrow mule track, is surrounded on three sides by a welcoming and pleasant garden. The inscription Judex ante Januam with reference to the Church of S. Stefano, which stands just opposite, can be read on the arch that leads into the courtyard.

Two steps between the ancient village of Corconio give us a nice glance on the Buccione hill, on the island of San Giulio and on Orta dominated by Monte Rosa in an unparalleled view.
