MOUNTAINEERING ROUTES
on rock
Rock climbing routes involve a climbing activity that is different from sport climbing.
This is due to the environment in which they take place, often at significant altitude, to the larger size of the walls, to the relative scarcity of belay points, to the greater quantity and variety of material needed. To protect oneself, it is often necessary to integrate what is present on site with quick protections, or to use nails.
The potentially severe environment requires a whole series of additional precautions, assessments and skills. The scale of difficulty is very broad, and the UIAA scale is usually used to indicate it.
Several dozen routes of this type are described on trekking-etc.
