from Campione del Garda to Gargnano
This fascinating stage of the Great Tour of Garda, extremely varied from a landscape point of view, starts in Campione del Garda and ends in Gargnano.
The route starts immediately uphill, overcoming the approximately 700 m difference in altitude necessary to reach Monte Cas, and offering great panoramic views of the northern Lake Garda and its surroundings.
Then it continues mainly downhill, with wide views of southern Lake Garda, initially reaching the Sanctuary of Montecastello, and later on the hamlets of Tignale, Aer, Piovere and Muslone, before reaching the conclusion.
In this long journey through villages, woods and olive groves, you will encounter some extremely suggestive places, such as the aforementioned sanctuary, and the waterfalls of the Bornico Valley.
You cross the bridge over the San Michele stream to the south, and take path 267:
You climb along the mountainside, passing by the water works,
including a short illuminated tunnel,
and a canal:
Immediately after the canal, at the crossroads, you turn left, taking path 266:
You go up the steep path,
quickly gaining altitude,
and an an altitude of 450 m the slope becomes more modest:
You pass near the town of Prabione, without reaching it, by turning twice to the left (see, alternatively, the variant through Prabione ):
You walk alongside an adventure park,
and shortly after, turn right, always following the signs for Monte Cas, path 266:
You travel about 300 meters on a slight slope,
but then the path becomes steep again:
You climb in a wide zigzag in the woods,
on a steep slope,
until you reach a panoramic point, at an altitude of 740 m:
The Sanctuary of Montecastello is already visible:
You now proceed on a very slight slope,
with an optional detour to the top of Monte Cas:
The view embraces the sanctuary again,
but also the eastern coast of Lake Garda, near Sommavilla, and the peaks of Monte Baldo:
You now go down a wide serpentine,
until you reach the entrance of the sanctuary:
You descend along the Via Crucis,
until you go along a large curve to the left, which leads to Via Ebranati,
and shortly thereafter you reach Tignale:
You first go along Via Trento,
then along a stretch of Via 24 Maggio,
then taking Via Manzoni,
and continuing on it when it becomes Via Panoramica:
You go beyond Tignale, which appears against the background of Monte Baldo,
and continue along Via Panoramica, until you reach the town of Aer, a characteristic and suggestive village,
where you go down Via dei Patrioti, to the left:
Then turn right into Via Marsala,
you pass under an arch,
and go down the path 265, through the countryside,
to then go into the woods, on a slight slope:
The path then begins to descend decisively:
until you get to the valley floor of the Bornico Valley, where there are beautiful waterfalls:
A stretch of steep path, to the right of the first waterfall, leads into the above basin of water, which you cross on a sort of bridge,
to then go up the stairway path, on the opposite side. The slope gives way early, so you walk slightly downhill; you cross path 252, but keep on the 265, reaching the village of Piovere, where you take Via Gramsci,
and immediately after Vicolo Porte:
Then you go along Via Chiesa,
and Via Gargnano:
You continue along path 265,
until you reach Muslone, another enchanting village:
You pass in front of the church,
then take Via Muslone, heading south-west.
Then you continue partly on a path, partly on the road:
You leave the road at a crossroads, on a long straight stretch, where you turn completely left downhill:
You continue along the road with some crossings:
Finally, you reach the state road, crossing it, at the Church of San Martino, in Gargnano:
You enter the town, and walk until you reach the center.
From the lakefront,
the view of Monte Baldo is fascinating:
It is possible to save about 250 m in altitude by avoiding Monte Cas and the Sanctuary of Montecastello, and instead passing through the town of Prabione. See the track in green color on the map.
You take this variant, decidedly less attractive from a panoramic point of view, going straight at the crossroads immediately preceding the adventure park,
going along Via Pascoli, towards the town,
until you reach the center, where you turn left, south, in Via Bezzecca, which continues in Via Anita Garibaldi:
This, in turn, flows into Via Leonardo da Vinci, equipped with a sidewalk,
or cycle-pedestrian track:
Finally, you join Via Ebranati, on the original route:
